So I stopped in the Volkswagen dealership tonight to see the new Tiguan and maybe turn in my Touareg early for something that gets some better gas mileage... Well the Tiguan was a huge bust! It's priced from $23,000 to $34,000 and is leasing for almost $700 fully loaded. WTF? Let me say that again, WTF? I could get a Mercedes for that... no way, no deal. I didn't even bother driving it.

That said I decided to go for my second choice, the Passat. I drove the 2.0 and the 3.6 -- the 3.6 has SO much more power but only gets TWO miles more per gallon than my Touareg. Again... WTF? I had him run some lease numbers and they were pretty pitiful. I didn't even bother negotiating right now since I'm not in love with any of my options.

And you want to know the funny thing? When I was all done and hopped into the Touareg, it just felt right. Is that crazy? Maybe I'm not ready to give it up.... I will tell you this though, the day I have to throw down a hundred bones for one tank of gas I'm going to cry.

airbag fault

Touareg

Two weeks ago the Touareg told me it had an airbag fault. This was just prior to my St. Louis trip so I took her in to get whatever the problem was fixed. Can't road trip with a bum airbag! They tell me it's all better and off I go.

Well midweek this past week... same message, airbag fault. What the heck! So I take her back in to the shop yesterday morning thinking this would be a few hours to fix. The dealership is like three blocks from my house so I just walk home, do whatever around the house for a few hours till they call me to pick her up. Well... no call.

Passat

I called them early afternoon to see what's going on and it's a whole rewire. Well it's not going to get done and the Enterprise Rent-a-Car is closed so they give me a dealer car to drive. It's a 2007 Passat and I'm thinking... maybe my SUV days are about to be over. I love how zippy this baby is and it is certainly roomier than my Jetta's were. Food for thought. I'm in a lease till Spring but... maybe I can work a deal.
