So I have, just today, one full week later, finished installing updating my computer from Tiger to Leopard! I've got to tell you this was a pretty painful process. I have upgraded many a Windows machine but this was an interesting new challenge.
My consultant for the office told me that it is much better to do an "erase and install" rather than an upgrade. She said that many people are experiencing strange things that aren't recoverable. Well, I meant to do the erase and install but didn't do it right and ended up doing the typical upgrade. So, I sat with it for a day ... it seemed a little sluggish but everything seemed to work. Well that's until I plugged in my iPhone. iTunes didn't recognize my iPhone. Well, I simply couldn't have that! And there didn't seem to be much on the internet about troubleshooting.
You know what that meant... yep, time to start from scratch. I used SuperDuper! to make a bootable copy of my machine before I did any of this and I will tell you that has COMPLETELY SAVED ME! The super cool thing with the Mac is that some (not all) applications can simply be brought over from the back up - no need to download and reinstall - that saved me quite a bit of time. There are a number of apps that won't do that though - the Adobe suite, Microsoft Office and iWork.
I've got iWork yet to install but other than that, I'm fully up and running again! Oh and I managed to fix my font problem along the way too! Thank goodness!
All that work and now the good stuff!! I LOVE the new Finder with "coverflow" and "look in" features, the 3D dock is fun, the video capabilities in photobooth are great!! I haven't set up time machine yet but that will be next on the list. I've got an external drive set aside just for that!
Aren't computers fun? Ugh!
